Happy Birthday, Virgos!
Virgo is signified by the Virgin. Once upon a very long time ago in ancient Greece, a virgin was defined as “one who is whole unto oneself.” From this Virgo came to be related to wholeness and perfection, the ability to care for oneself, and to serve others in the process of becoming whole again.
The archetype of Virgo is attuned to purity and is acutely aware of when it’s lacking. In this regard, Virgo has a wonderful spidey sense of what is off kilter, missing, or tainted. Likewise, Virgo has a knack for identifying what would make this self, other, situation, relationship, etc, more perfect or whole.
Astrologer Steven Forrest calls it “Divine discontent.” It’s a hunger, drive, and effort put toward making what actually is into what it should be.
This is a handy gift unless it devolves into its shadow form which is excessive perfectionism, criticism, and nitpicking.
Virgo rules the digestive system. I’ve read that we have more “brain chemicals” in our guts than in our actual brains. When we (we all have Virgo in our natal charts) act out the shadow Virgo traits mentioned above (which also include excessive worry, brooding, and anxiety) our guts get stirred up. This week’s home recording includes practices to calm and balance the digestive system by stimulating nabhi, the navel marma which governs the digestive organs. And it ends with a visualization for Self-compassion to relax the Inner Critic.
I hope you enjoy! Please reach out if you have any questions.
Love,
Shala
